1.Overview of SCSIDE II
ACARD is an expert of storage. We have years of experiences in the design, development and application of storage devices. The solutions we provide always meet the market demand, and have won praise from well-known manufacturers in the world. Over the years, our exclusive SCSIDE technology, chips and system applications have obtained an important market share. Owing to the change of market needs, our SCSIDE technology is no longer just a SCSI-to-IDE (SATA) Bridges that turn ATA/IDE (SATA) hard drives or ATAPI devices into high-performance SCSI ones. The technology can be further used
to design serialized, virtualized and fit-for-network Bridges to connect more storage devices and to do more transformations like SATA-to-SAS, Network-to-SATA/SAS, etc. For these different applications, ACARD has entitled the technology as SCSIDE II – the second generation of SCSIDE technology.

Besides having the new functions of ACARD’s IC, the series products of SCSIDE II contain the technology of the first generation, too. In operation, SCSIDE II uses the built-in RISC on the chip for interface transformation to reduce CPU loading in data transfer, and accordingly enhances the I/O performance; thus, making the whole system more stable and efficient. SCSIDE II products are all tested for compatibility on different storage devices. Above all, the prices of SCSIDE II products are also reasonable.
The reason of turning an IDE/SATA/SAS interface into a high-end, all-purpose SATA/SCSI/Network device is that corporations have desired to get highly efficient and stable interfaces for data transfer by using inexpensive storage interfaces so as to accomplish the economy of costs. ACARD’s SCSIDE II has both the technological advantage and cost-effectiveness to meets the corporate budget. Our SCSIDE II product line is compatible with Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista, Linux, Unix and Mac.
2.Special Benefits of SCSIDE II
SCSIDE II chiefly offers serialized interfaces for transformation in order to increase the speed of data transfer. It lets users invest less to get better C/P ratio by turning a low price peripheral into a high end device. In industries, it extends to transformations of various standard interfaces. The related products are not limited to SCSI-to-IDE Bridges. In addition, the bidirectional data transfer can receive and transfer data at the same time, quicken the operation of storage system, and enhance the efficiency and stability. The follows are about the specifications and features of SCSIDE II products.
SCSI-to-SATA
The basic type of SCSIDE II is raising a SATA interface from 1.5G to 3G. The SCSI interface is raised to Ultra320 too. Besides being applied to SATA devices for transformation, SCSIDE II also supports the newest SATAPI devices for the transformation of SATA to SCSI. Furthermore, the form factors of SCSIDE II products
include the industrial standards, too. In other words, such modularized products are specially designed for industrial storage equipment.

SATA-to-SAS
The advanced type of SCSIDE II is based on the increasing SATA compatibility. With our SCSIDE II Technology, an user can turn a SAS device into a SATA one. (Does this mean turning a SAS drive into a SATA drive with bridge, or vise versa?) Data can be striped over several SATA ports and the transfer rate will be increased. Such a kind of application can make a SAS device transfer freely over a SATA interface, or be connected with the present SATA peripheral.

Network-to-SATA/SAS
The network storage type of SCSIDE II is derived from the hottest network storage device in the market. Currently ACARD has iSCSI, AoE (ATA over Ethernet) and Infiniband products for network storage. The characteristics of different kinds of storage are described below.
iSCSI-to-SATA/SAS:
- Standard transfer protocol having better compatibility and easy management
- Built on the existing IP structure without extra expenditures
- Limitless expansion as internet
- Remote site control around the world
- Low-cost construction (about 1/2 to 1/10 of FC)
- Much faster than FC in the future transfer rate

AoE-to-SATA/SAS:
- Standard transfer protocol having better compatibility and easy management
- Built on the existing IP structure without extra expenditures
- Limitless expansion as internet
- Remote site control around the world
- High noise tolerance to secure smooth data transfer
- The lowest cost among SAN solutions

Infiniband-to-SATA/SAS:
- Standard transfer protocol having better compatibility, easy management and expansion
- High bandwidth, low delay and high usability
- Uses inexpensive Ethernet switch, hub and cable to achieve low risk
- Adopts point-to-point mode of data transfer
- Solves the bottleneck of I/O data transfer and lets devices work independently
