[Taipei, Taiwan, 2010.Jan.11] ACARD Technology Corp. today announced the new generation SAS SoC (System on Chip). This 8 ports SAS / SATA SoC – ARC830, is developed by ACARD who had long been providing storage solutions for enterprise and industrial storage systems. ARC830 equipped PCI-X, eight SAS / SATA interface, Hardware RAID Engine, and one Gbe Ethernet Mac interface. It is suitable for Enterprise-class storage system like SAS RAID, NAS or iSCSI.
ARC830 is the world's first fully support SAS/SATA devices. Compare to current SAS solutions with HDD support only, ACARD developed the first SAS SoC which supporting Blu-Ray/DVD drive, SSD, and Tape drive. The creative features made more applications like SAS Blu-Ray DVD library, Tape library, or any integrated combination of multiple devices more available.
ARC830 is capable to support Host and Target mode. For host mode, ARC830 with PCI-X interface provide low cost eight-port SAS controller for HBA market. This application fits the market demand of low cost server when used for extending more capacity.
For Target mode aspect, four out of eight SAS ports can be configured as Target mode. As Cloud-Computing age is coming, data transfer performance of storage is becoming more important. When computing system moving from area network to Internet environment, the storage system plays a key role for data providing. It will requires higher bandwidth than before. ARC830 featured SAS Wide-Port which aggregate four SAS 3Gb/s ports into a 12 Gb/s SAS. Wide-Port will keep sufficient bandwidth for high performance computing application.
ARC830 supports popular RAID level like RAID 5 and RAID 6. The Hardware-based Engine was designed with pre-cache data phase unit and advanced parity data calculation unit. The RAID engine can efficiently process data through both units to deal with heavy loading traffic such as database server.
ACARD storage solution also offers diversification for system manufacturers. ARC830 solutions meet both performance and capacity requirements by combining additional controller IC within a single platform. When using ARC830 with low cost ATP8624 SATA Controller, system will benefit from big capacity and economic. To obtain high performance, reliability and scalability, manufacturers may extend SAS ports to form an enterprise-class systems by adding more ARC830 SoC. The diversified combination make products easier to meet market demand between cost and performance .
